A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough to attend Social Media IQ’s “Getting your Business Facebook ready for 2010!” workshop in Cape Town.

Some time ago I connected with Peter and Lisa from Social Media IQ on Twitter and Facebook. When they decided to come to Cape Town to do the workshop they invited me to attend as their guest.

It was an extremely valuable experience. I thought I knew a lot about social media, but there was a lot that I didn’t know. The workshop was focussed at beginners and spoke much about the psychology and value of participating in the social media environment.

My social experiment is my business. And my business has only been successful because of social media. I don’t think I would have lasted 10 minutes let alone 10 months if I wasn’t able to tell this story and engage with people in the social media space. The beauty of it is that I have done everything without spending money. Yes, I may have had a little help from people in terms internet connections and things like that, but everything I use is basically for free. Think of what that can mean for you.
